Baguio 2nd grader bags silver in world math championship

BAGUIO CITY – A grade 2 pupil in this mountain resort who brought home pride and honor to the city for placing second by winning the silver medal in world math championship was cited by city officials last week.

Anne Margarette Bilog Roales of Small World Christian School Foundation, here  brought home silver in the 2014 World Mathematics Invitation Competition held in the National University of Taiwan, Kaoshuing, Taiwan.

Roales was one of the 1,200 students nationwide under the 2014 Youth Mathematics in-house Intensive Training Program selected by the Mathematics Development Academy of the Philippines and Mathematics Trainers Guild.

She was pre-screened and part of the 449 students who made it in the final phase of training under the 2014 Mathematics Olympiad Summer Training Program (MOSTP).

Roales was part of the Philippine Team who competed against entries from the United States of America (USA), China, South Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Nigeria and Taiwan.

The group harvested a modest 26 gold, silver and bronze medals and fifty four merit awards.

Roales in the daughter of Bernard Douglas and Dr. Maria ElvieRoales of Lexber Heights, Camp 7, this city.

Meantime, City Officials approved City Resolution 230 series of 2014 congratulating Roales which reads: “Her accomplishment is worth commending as it gives pride and prestige not only to the City of Baguio and its constituents but also to the country.” – Paul Rillorta
